The Erasmus+ project that took place in Ankara and of which we were a partner ended on 29 October, leaving behind an incredible experience. This is how our participants from Romania describe the project:
During the project, we came together with participants from Turkey, Portugal, Spain, Italy, Bulgaria and Hungary to discuss the difficulties migrant women face, gender inequality and the steps to be taken to build a better life for these women.
The project enabled us to understand that migrant women are not only victims but also strong, resilient members of societies. As we listened to the difficulties experienced by the women, we realised how different each of their stories were and at the same time how gender norms further disempowered these women. The group work and discussions enabled the participants to gain in-depth knowledge about migrant women's rights and social equality.
Participation in this project was a transformative experience not only for our participants but also for us. Each participant has shown great determination to carry the knowledge and empathy they have gained to their communities. We now have a better understanding of the challenges faced by migrant women and try to approach them in a more sensitive way.
This experience reminded us that in addition to being sensitive to the difficulties faced by migrant women, we all need to fulfil our responsibility for gender equality and human rights.
